AUTHOR

Michael J Shanahan AM was appointed a Judge of the District Court of Queensland in 1999 after being Public Defender for Queensland (1990–1998). In February 2011 he became President of the Children’s Court of Queensland. Judge Shanahan has been an author of Carter's Criminal Law of Queensland since 1994 and is the head author of the work.


Soraya M Ryan QC was appointed a Judge of the Supreme Court of Queensland in March 2018. Prior to her appointment she worked as a Crown Prosecutor, a lecturer in Evidence at the University of Qld and in-house counsel at Legal Aid Qld. In 2010 she commenced private practice at the Bar, specialising in criminal law and was appointed Queen’s Counsel in 2013.


Anthony J Rafter SC was appointed a Judge of the District Court of Queensland in 2006. Prior to his appointment he was in private practice at the Bar and specialised in criminal appeal work.


John J Costanzo has been a magistrate in the Magistrates Court of Qld since 2000 and has been an author of Carter’s Criminal Law for over 20 years.


Andrew Hoare is a Barrister who specialises in criminal law. He has been in private practice since 1998.
